Drug and Alcohol Detox in Virginia

What is MEDICAL WITHDRAWAL OR DETOX?

Medical withdrawal, typically referred to as “detoxification” or “detox,” is a comprehensive, medically managed approach used to transition a patient from physical dependence to abstinence.

As alcohol and drugs differ in their effects; so too does the withdrawal from these substances. Farley Center recognizes the need for a safe and comfortable withdrawal process by providing a physician-driven, medically monitored detoxification that includes an interdisciplinary staff of physicians, nurses, and counselors.

When seeking detox services, it’s crucial to consider your specific needs, the substances you are using, and the severity of your addiction. Detox is an important first step in the recovery process, and accessing professional support can help ensure a safe and comfortable withdrawal experience. Additionally, detox programs can provide connections to further treatment and recovery resources to support long-term sobriety.

It’s important to note that the primary goal of a detox program is to provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals to withdraw from substances. The specific criteria for admission and the level of care provided can vary widely, so it’s essential to contact the detox facility directly or consult with a healthcare professional for guidance on the most appropriate course of action based on an individual’s specific circumstances.

If you or someone you know is seeking detox services, it’s important to reach out to a healthcare provider, addiction specialist, or a local addiction helpline to discuss the specific situation and receive guidance on the most suitable detox program. Additionally, understanding the policies and criteria of detox facilities in your area can help you make informed decisions regarding admission.

It’s important to clarify that the requirement for individuals to be in “imminent danger” may vary depending on the policies and guidelines of specific detox facilities, treatment programs, or state regulations. The criteria for admitting someone to a detox program can differ based on the facility’s policies, the nature and severity of the individual’s substance use, and the state or local regulations governing addiction treatment.

Our Drug and Alcohol Detox Team in Virginia

Our team is trained in a variety of protocols that allow for customized detoxification based on dependence and medical history.  There is an appropriate mix of direct patient contact, review of records, daily treatment check-in, and 24-hour coverage by medical staff.

Detoxification services can be accessed as an individual treatment if deemed appropriate with coordination of care or can be bundled with The Farley Center’s primary or extended-care treatments.

Individuals requiring detox must be in imminent danger and have the following three elements present:

  1. The strong probability that certain behaviors will occur (e.g., continued alcohol or drug use)
  2. The likelihood that these behaviors pose a risk to the individual or someone else (e.g., driving while under the influence or seizures resulting from withdrawal of alcohol without medical monitoring)
  3. The likelihood that adverse events will occur in the near future

Because everyone is different, complications can occur. That is why it is helpful to have a medical staff trained in managing complicated withdrawal as well as medical and psychiatric concerns. Please contact the admissions office if you or someone you love is in need of detoxification and rehabilitation from drugs and/or alcohol. Our number is 888.707.3220.
