OVERVIEW

Our work with people brings us unto situations that are emotionally charged and occasionally volatile. Improving our ability to deal effectively with these feelings in ourselves as well as others is essential to our work.

This workshop is for individuals who want to improve their understanding of the emotional components of self and who wish t o acquire methods for dealing more effectively with feelings. Feelings mastery techniques covered include feelings choice, detoxification, translation from second order feelings to first order, feelings deferral, paradoxical feelings management, and feelings validation. Special emphasis will be placed on cognitive behavioral strategies for change.

OBJECTIVES

  • Participants will be able to identify the five feelings types
  • Participants will be able to identify at least four preferred strategies for helping clients develop greater feelings mastery
  • Participants will generally improve their ability to address emotional issues in their clients

About the Speaker

William L. Mock is the Executive Director of the Professional Training Center, Inc. in North Ridgeville, Ohio and Chief Trainer for the Ohio Institute for Addiction Studies in Lakewood, Ohio. His academic degrees include a Doctorate in Psychology and Masters in Social Work. He is a Licensed Independent Social Worker, Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor and Department of Transportation qualified Substance Abuse Professional. He has expertise in chemical dependency treatment, family systems treatment and organizational systems development. He has provided training and consultation in several countries to such diverse groups as treatment/prevention providers, family therapists, industry leaders, educators, administrators and criminal justice personnel.
