Participants will be able to:
- Be familiar with the definition and diagnosis of sex addiction
- Understand the consequences typical of sex addiction to those in active addiction and their partners
- Become familiar with the addictive cycle of sex addition and the six classes of paraphilias
- Learn models, considerations, and useful resources for therapy
About the Speakers
Michael E. Bohan, MD developed an interest in addiction medicine while an Internist in the US Navy. He retired from the Navy in 1982, and since then has been practicing addiction medicine. In 1986, Dr. Bohan was one of the first doctors to be certified in addiction medicine by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). From 1981 to 1987 he was a member of the World Board of Trustees of Narcotics Anonymous. Dr. Bohan has been a medical school faculty member at various medical schools since 1967, and currently is an associate professor of internal medicine on the community faculty of Eastern Virginia Medical School.
He has given numerous talks and published articles on addiction medicine. He was a board member of SASH - Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health from 1998-2004. He has been with Meridian Psychotherapy since 1992. Dr. Bohan has devoted his practice to the treatment of chemical dependency, sexual addiction, and co-dependency.
St. George T. Lee Jr, MD is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1972 and began his career as a cardiologist. He later earned a masters in Counseling Psychology from Saybrook Graduate Institute in San Francisco in 2003. He has also published the book Light in the Darkness: A Guide to Recovery from Addiction.
