How to Know If The Farley Center’s Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program Is Right for You

Farley - How to Know If The Farley Center's Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program Is Right for You

All of us at The Farley Center are proud of our inpatient and outpatient treatment programs for those who are struggling with drugs or alcohol. These traditional programs have served many people extremely well as they work to overcome a substance use disorder.

That said, these programs are not easily accessible for everyone. That may be due to work or family responsibilities, for example. It might also be the case that a person who has completed our inpatient program wants to build on that experience with our intensive outpatient program (IOP) but needs more flexibility than an IOP generally provides.

In those sorts of situations, a telehealth virtual intensive outpatient program can be a wonderful solution—and The Farley Center offers an excellent program of this kind. In fact, our Virtual IOP is at the forefront of accessible and adaptive treatment for substance use disorders. Our program merges the proven effectiveness of more traditional IOPs with the convenience of telehealth technology.

The Virtual IOP accommodates individuals who are seeking a structured approach to substance use disorder treatment but require the ability to pursue treatment from their home or other private setting. Importantly, this is no watered-down version of treatment. The Farley Center’s Virtual IOP is built around our commitment to providing care and support of the highest quality—just like we do for those pursuing in-person treatment options. Our team of expert specialists is on the job, ensuring that your path to recovery runs smoothly through your daily life.

How Does the Virtual IOP Work?

A person going through treatment via our Virtual IOP engages with services via a digital platform from their computer or other device. A secure video conferencing technology safeguards the participant’s privacy while providing access to individual and group therapy as well as educational sessions. Every aspect of the program is conducted by The Farley Center’s licensed professionals.

Considering the Pros and Cons of the Virtual IOP

We have already mentioned one of the key benefits of seeking substance use disorder treatment via our Virtual IOP: the program allows participants to access high-quality, evidence-based treatment without traveling for care or withdrawing from day-to-day life for residential treatment. That means participants can keep their jobs or continue attending school, maintain their family and personal responsibilities, and more.

Another benefit that serves many people well is the ability to pursue treatment in the comfort of your own home—or a private place of your own choosing. This can reduce anxiety and stress about seeking treatment for a substance use disorder because you do not have to leave the environments where you are most comfortable. This can be particularly important for those who are worried about the stigma that is still often associated with seeking out treatment for a substance use disorder.

Those participating in our Virtual IOP have access to a supportive online community. Treatment includes the opportunity to connect with other individuals who are also working toward recovery through this digital program.

There are some potential disadvantages to consider as well. For example, a Virtual IOP requires a good digital connection; without it, technical issues are likely to arise and disrupt treatment. Some individuals may also have trouble finding a consistently private location from which to connect to treatment. That might be the case in a busy and crowded household, for example. Before starting a virtual IOP experience, a person seeking treatment will want to carefully consider whether it is, in fact, the best option for their needs.

In any event, potential participants in the Virtual IOP can be assured that the staff of The Farley Center is always working to optimize this important treatment option so that it is available to—and effective for—more people who would be well served by this approach. As with all of our programs, the ultimate goal is to facilitate lasting recovery.

Other Treatment Options Are Always Available

We want to be clear here: a virtual IOP might be a great option for you. But you might also be better served by residential treatment or an in-person IOP approach. At The Farley Center, we can help you determine which style of treatment is most likely to serve you well as you pursue the important goal of leaving drugs or alcohol in your past.

Commitment to Your Care

Located in Williamsburg, Virginia, The Farley Center leans into evidence-based practices for substance use disorder treatment. Those practices are supported by our team’s high levels of training, years of experience, and spirit of empathy. In addition to treating substance use disorders, we are ready and able to address co-occurring mental health disorders, ensuring that you can start your recovery journey with confidence that depression, anxiety, or an issue grounded in trauma is less likely to upend the hard work you have done.

A substance use disorder brings disorder to your entire life. Leaving drugs or alcohol behind allows you to reclaim your life and your future. When you are ready to make this essential change for the better, we are here to help you do so.
